Police officers, detectives, and correction officers pursuing, apprehending, and incarcerating criminals are very special people. The public depends on them to prevent, and solve crimes, and protect their lives, and property.

Similarly, to the police, a peace officer has the responsibility to uphold the peace. Different positions  include police officers, correctional officers, parole officers, deputies or sheriffs. The Job

The job can be dirty, tiresome, and dangerous. But most of all the job is very rewarding.  It offers a sense of pride, and a feeling belonging to something larger than yourself. Law enforcement officials perform their duties in the highest esteem, whether on or off duty.

  • In fiscal year 2006, federal, state, and local governments spent an estimated $214 billion for police protection, corrections, and judicial and legal activities; this is a 5.1% increase over the previous year.
  • In fiscal year 2006, state and local governments spent a combined 83% of all direct justice dollars; the federal government spent the rest.
  • The federal government spent more than $36 billion on direct expenditures for criminal and civil justice in fiscal year 2006.
  • State governments spent over $69 billion and local governments spent over $109 billion.
